I love France. There is always so much to do and explore. If you have enough time, it is always a good idea to explore places outside of Paris. The Normandy Coast is one France’s finest attractions to visit and crowned as a UNESCO heritage site. It was a quite a long journey from Paris; approximately 4 hours there and back but definitely worth it. Mont St Michel is an 8th century Benedictine abbey perched on an ancient hilltop on a rocky, serene island surrounded by medieval architecture and scenery. It is such a well preserved site that you almost feel transported back in time to the middle ages of cobblestone steps, stone walls and narrow, convoluted winding alleys.

After scouring through the web for the best deal and reading reviews on TripAdvisor, we booked a day trip with Paris City Vision. We selected the option of the full day round trip tour which includes a 6.30 am hotel pick-up (from any hotel with the Zipcode starting with 75) and English guide which gives the option of a guided tour with lunch at a lovely restaurant called Relais St Michel. There is nothing worse than being a “hangry” tourist exploring a vast place on an empty stomach. My advice is to stock up on snacks and drinks to have during the journey there as it is going to be a long ride.
This is a revolutionary 2500ft footbridge that connects the 1300 year old abbey and medieval village to the French mainland. It is a footpath for pedestrians as well as a road for shuttle buses for easier access.

We had plenty of free time to explore the grounds by ourselves. We secretly broke away from our guided tour halfway through and did have a lot of fun exploring the place on our own.
An amazing feature of the abbey. Apparently the monks used to transport things up and down that steep slope . Nowadays, we have technology called a “lift”
Of course, we had to make a quick stop to try some amazing traditional french crepes at La Sirene. Freshly made crepes and excellent service. I wished I had more after finishing my share. This hidden gem is situated on the second floor of a souvenir shop. You have to walk up a set of spiral stairs to get here. Such a great find!
Delightfully surprised by the sudden change in weather from cloudy skies to picture perfect sunny blue skies. Trust me , it only lasted for 30 mins before it started pouring again but thankfully we were already on the way home!
I hope that this post serves as a short and sweet guide if you are planning a trip to Mont St Michel. We were happy with this tour by Paris City Vision. It was very convenient and well-planned.
