Dramatic as how the title may sound, this is without a doubt the number one question my patients ask me about what products I use or recommend for problematic skin. As a doctor, I prescribe all sorts of medications to help with acne treatment such as topical and oral antibiotics, topical retinoids, adapalene and the contraceptive pill. They are all very effective spot treatments in their own right. However, I find that the while acne may improve, the skin gets very fragile and photo-sensitive from the drying after-effects of these treatments, especially with retinoids.
My skincare journey has been quite an experience, albeit rather arduous. I have tried many, many products; having acne since my teens. Skin texture and needs evolve with age and so must skincare.
For example , back then, I was absolutely terrified of using any sort of oil on my face. However, now I welcome cleansing oils with open arms. The rule of thumb is – go for non-fragranced/non-comedogenic skincare and if something does not work – move on!
So what makes SK II products the creme de la creme of the anti-ageing skin industry? Pitera; which is basically sake yeast. Apparently, scientists in the 70s stumbled upon a group of workers at a sake brewery in Japan with beautifully smooth hands from working with their hands submerged frequently in sake yeast.
Growing up watching SK II ads, I always thought they were gimmicks that intend to rob the guillible; and I was not going to be part of that . I was wrong . Fast forward 20 years and after using SK II now for 2 years, I am fully on board the SK II bandwagon.
I have used the SK II treatment lotion which I thoroughly enjoy , but what I find as the absolute game changer is the SK II treatment essence. Before slathering that precious little essence, it is important to clean the face from all grime and makeup and slap on a toner ( I use the SK II treatment lotion.) It allows the face to absorb the goodness of the essence to its best effect.
I have found that the SK II treatment essence really improves skin texture with time, as well as the skin tone. My husband who has seen my skin during its absolute worst glory days did mention he can definitely see a difference..so that is a plus! The 230ml bottle can last me for almost 5 months. At least, that is how I justify the hefty $210 price tag.
When I get slack with my skincare and cannot be bothered to apply layers of serums and potions on my face, I go with the SK II RNA Power Face Cream. Now this is my best companion for curbing all those irritating skin flaking around my chin and nose area. I have oily combination skin so it helps my cushion foundation sit nicely on top without sliding around in a sea of dried up skin-flaking fest.
So there you go, my very simple skincare routine for the busy career woman, who usually has less than 10 mins in the morning for skincare and makeup. This is not sponsored; so I am really excited to share with you my true, tried and tested opinion about this SK II line of products. Let me know what you think in the comments down below if you had any good or bad experience with these products! I have also linked down below where you can find these products.
